As we age or lose weight, the face loses elasticity. This causes an increase in looseness, which results in areas of droopiness, sagging, wrinkles, or a hollow appearance. 

Fat transfer (also called facial fat grafting) is a procedure in which fat is taken from the abdomen, hips, or thighs to add volume to the face to achieve a more youthful, tightened, and rejuvenated appearance. It works very well for the lower eyelids, cheeks, jawline, and in the folds of the nose.

Dermapose

Dermapose is a unique, all-in-one treatment designed to purify, microsize, and reinject fat cells with the same harvesting syringe. A Dermapose treatment may require local anesthesia, and typically takes about an hour or less. Dermapose provides results in a little as one week, but as your body processes the injections, there will be continuous improvements over the following six months.

Puregraft

Puregraft is a selective filtration technology to gently purify the harvested fat. Puregraft removes blood, oil, fluid, and fragmented or broken fat cells. The result is concentrated, healthy, viable fat cells that can be successfully transferred to the desired area.

Puregraft is the only system proven to consistently remove 97% of unwanted components, greatly improving the long-term retention of fat cells. This highly effective filtration technology is a closed system that keeps the fat contained from start to finish, which eliminates any risk of contamination.

Procedure details

A very small cannula (a thin tube) is inserted by means of tiny skin punctures into the area where fat is being taken. A small amount of this fatty tissue is removed, purified, and placed into a syringe. It is then injected into the face, where it will restore volume and firm up the facial areas. In addition, stem cells are mixed in with the fat. This is believed to increase longevity of the fat, improve skin appearance, and help to slow the aging process. The liposuction incisions will be closed. Depending on the area(s) being treated, the fat transfer procedure usually takes about one hour.

FAQs

My chin is very pointy and flat. Can fat transfer enhance my chin?

Yes. Fat transfers work very well to rejuvenate and enhance the chin. Recovery time only lasts about two weeks, and results last 3-5 years.

I have very thin lips, and I’m interested in a fat transfer. How long will the results last, and will I need multiple sessions?

A fat transfer can last between 3-5 years. There’s a chance your lips will remain permanently plumped after the fat transfer, but as you age and your body changes, your lips may change as well. Because of this, it’s more common for patients to need a second fat transfer with time.

Recovery

It takes about 1-2 weeks to fully recover from a facial fat transfer, but patients often return to work within 3-5 days following treatment. You may experience mild swelling and bruising for up to five days, and there may also be an area of the fat transfer that is not as smooth as the surrounding area. This can be corrected by softly massaging the area in small circles to blend the fat into the tissue. You can begin mild exercise after about a week, but you should refrain from strenuous activity for about two weeks.

Results 

It’s very important for patients considering facial fat transfer to understand that results are gradual, not immediate. Early results will be visible a few days following the procedure, but final results may take up to six months. There’s also a slight chance that there will be some fat absorption (meaning the fat will not survive its new environment), but the amount is difficult to predict because every patient is different. Most patients tend to have the procedure done until they get the results they desire. During your consultation, Dr. Halaas can let you know more about how the fat may or may not survive. Once achieved, the results of a fat transfer last 3-5 years.

COVID-19 Safety Measures

We understand that there may be times when you miss an appointment due to emergencies or obligations for work and family.

However, due to Covid 19. and the current CDC guidelines, we are implementing a new ” no exceptions” cancellation/no show/rescheduling policy effective September 1, 2020.

If any appointment is cancelled or RESCHEDULED less than 24 hours in advance you will be charged a fee of $100. This policy will be in place until further notice and applies to new AND existing clients We apologize for any inconvenience but look forward to getting through this difficult time together.

At Dr. Halaas office, we take our staff’s and patients’ health very seriously. We are implementing safety measures to ensure everyone who comes through our doors will experience the highest level of care and the lowest risk levels.

Safety of our Employees

Each day we are taking our employees temperatures and going over a questionnaire to make sure we are all in the best of health. If anyone has a temperature over 100.4, or has fever, sore throat, chills, loss of taste, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pains, or headache, they will be asked to leave and go see their primary care doctor, or go get tested.

If an employee has been in contact with someone with Covid, we will ask them to get themselves tested, or they will have to quarantine themselves for two weeks.

We have installed a sneeze guard at our front counter for the safety of both our employees and our patients.

Safety of our Patients

Patients must sign up for our patient portal before coming to their appointment

  • Information to get into the portal will be emailed immediately after making an appointment
  • Information to be completed will be medical history as well as a Covid questionnaire
  • Covid questionnaire must be completed for EVERY visit patient makes until further notice
  • We also have a patient app, MyPatientVisit, that we can communicate with the patient when we are ready to see them

All patients must wear masks to their appointment.

We ask patients to come to their appointment alone. Minors may be accompanied by an adult.

Temperature will be taken at the door.

  • If they have a temperature over 100.4 they will be rescheduled and asked to go see their primary care doctor

Once patient has been cleared, we will escort them to their suite where they will be treated.
We have removed water and snacks from our waiting area, as well as all pamphlets regarding services.

Each room will be thoroughly disinfected in between patients
We encourage telehealth consults beforehand, so we can make a plan for when patients do come into office.
